Laois Youth Dance Ensemble

Laois Youth Dance Ensemble (LYDE), founded in 2013 by dance artist Erica Borges, is the first contemporary dance group in Laois. LYDE provides young people with high-quality dance training in a supportive, inclusive environment that celebrates individuality, creativity, and collaboration. Through professional workshops, residencies, and performances — including the annual Laois Dance Platform festival — LYDE connects youth with national and international artists, making dance visible, accessible, and vibrant across the Midlands.

Youth Dance Programs

Laois Youth Dance Ensemble (LYDE) and Ohr Dance Company, offers high-quality contemporary dance training that blends technical excellence with creative freedom, celebrating diversity and self-expression. Through Laois Dance Platform, residencies, and performances in Ireland and abroad, LYDE empowers young dancers to grow as artists within a vibrant global community.

LYDE Juniors (10-14)

For younger dancers, our LYDE Juniors program introduces the fundamentals of contemporary dance in a fun, creative, and supportive environment. The program encourages self-expression, confidence, and teamwork while building a strong foundation for future artistic development.

LYDE Seniors (14-19)

Our LYDE Seniors program builds on foundational skills, offering advanced contemporary dance training that deepens technique, creativity, and performance artistry. Dancers are encouraged to refine their individual style and artistic voice while engaging in a dynamic, collaborative environment.

Ohr Dance Company (17+)

For aspiring professionals, the Ohr Dance Company offers pre-professional training and performance opportunities that prepare dancers for a career in the arts. Participants refine their skills through collaboration with national and international dance artists and gain valuable stage experience performing at renowned festivals and events.

About Ohr Dance Company

Ohr Dance Company offers pre-professional training and performance opportunities for dancers in full-time training (over 6 hours per week) and new graduate dance students. Focused on refining technique, artistry, and stage experience, the company provides mentorship and collaboration with national and international dance artists. Through participation in residencies and performances at renowned festivals, dancers gain insight into the professional dance world while developing confidence, creativity, and a strong artistic voice. Ohr Dance Company empowers emerging dancers to grow as professionals and connect with the broader contemporary dance community.
